A week's Holiday... in Hospital [surprised.gif]
23 - 29 May 2010

Last Sunday, the 23 May 2010, was very hot over here and we were out in the garden pottering around. An ice cream Van came round so I bought myself…… a corneto and gulped down to cool down, without realising that it has a lot of fat!

After awhile I started feeling pains all over my tummy and went back to the house…. And cutting a long story short I ended up at the Accident & Emergency Department of the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guilford, at around midnight.

By 5 Am I had many tests, x-rays, scans etc and was sent up to the specialist Frensham Ward to be seen by the doctors there. They came around at 9 Am and I was told that I have gall stones in my bladder and must be operated very soon to avoid any infection and damages to my pancreas.

Without going to many details I ended up staying at the hospital, had my operation on Friday morning and later in the afternoon I was told I am free to go home, if I want to but chosen to stay an extra night and was released on Saturday afternoon the 29 May 2010.

While staying at the hospital I stopped smoking and noticed a great improvement with my breathing, which allowed me to go up and down the 2 floor stairs without any problems or getting out of breath. Of course after so many years smoking is very hard to give up completely and since coming home I have tried 2-3 times to smoke a cigarette but started getting headaches, so no more smoking, but I want to eat all the time, which is not good news because I am overweight and I must loose some weight very soon!

House is full of any type of fruits, so I stuff myself all day long avoiding eating too much food and yes I am going out in the garden to get fresh air and walk about!

It will be a big strangle to stop smoking, maybe now is coming easier, but loosing weight at the same time…….that will be an achievement for me, and I am determine to do it… but slowly as still can’t stretch my self too much. I feel a little weak for now!

Soon, on the 11 June we are off to Russia so I have to make sure I am fully recovered, but I hope and I am sure al will be
“ Aright on the night of travelling to Moscow! " [biggrin.gif]

Mustn't forget to say a big [thanks.gif] to my wife, who has excelled in looking after me...... and sorry darling to give you so much trouble! As it happened poor girl was dropped in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, managed to swim and survive the waves, back to dry land!

I am very proud of her! [flowers.gif]

Yannis,

It is great that you are back out of hospital and that you seem to be in fine fettle.

Hanna, well done.

Back to Rodina after 2 years of marriage!

Today we are going back to Ufa for a 14 days holiday, to see mama and other relatives.

I still can't believe it that it was 2 years ago on the 14 June 2008 when we god married so we are going back to celebrate this small achievement.

During the past two years, my wife and I, had to learn to live together after living an independent life for many years both of us and for her it was more difficult because she had to adjust to new life conditions, in a foreign country and more importantly having to live with me, which is not an easy task but sofar she has copped well.

Of course we had our ups and downs, like every other couple, otherwise life would have been boring, to say the least, but we managed to survive the cultural shock period and things now have become more normal.

As you know Hanna had to study alot to improve her English and at the same time she was practising touch typing and now can achieve 30 words per minute, which makes life easier for her. Her English level is not exactly fluent or academic in the scales of the IELTS but it's very good and now has crossed the point where she things and speaks English. Her vocabulary is increasing daily and we all know that it takes long time but she is now on a level that has no problem following the news or watching a film without asking me to translate!

We have passed a few milestones, her getting her Resident card, which allow us to travel easily around Europe and we have been abroad in a few trips, as I have already posted on this thread. My wife has also found a job and she is now permanent staff but she is a typical hard working Russian woman and works too hard, so this break will make the world of good to her. She deserves a very good rest and I am sure she will enjoy going back home to see her mother and also the family!

One thing I have to say that she has been very good during the past two years and has not complained or asked to go back sooner.......and I think the few trips abroad made the difference in our life.

Last day in the UK, tonight we fly out to Moscow and Ufa, bags are ready and of course she can't resist the chance to work in the garden! [biggrin.gif]

Any how I am happy we are going back to Russia, I will take many photos and try to keep an eye on what is going on on the board and report any new developments in Russia.

Registration with OVIR in Ufa

When we arrived in SVO last Saturday, I used the new immigration card, which I took from the VAC in London, used my PC and typed nicely all the info. On the plane we were given the old style ones and Hanna filled one by hand too.

The immigration officer checked the new card, called a supervisor and they both agreed it was OK and gave us back the old type one.....and stamped the new one.

On Mondey we had celebrations for the so many (don't know exactly) years of Bashkortonstan union with Russia.... so on Tuesday Hanna called the OVIR to find out the opening times and was told Tuesday Wednesday are open all day till 18.00.

Yesterday, Wednesday, we took a taxi and went there, in a new addres..... only to find out that they were not working but the door was open and few people around moaning because they were also given the wrong information on the phone.

Any how an officer came over and told us to go but we instisted we were given the wrong info and we come from far away.

He had a look on my papers, told me my immigration card was wrong.....went over to his boss and came back telling me it's not accepted and Moscow was wrong.... but if I bring another old style one he will accept the stamp on the new one.

Hanna told him we do not have an old one and he suggested we go to the local airport and get one....... [angry.gif]

I told my wife to forget it and sod the OVIR registration in Ufa.... and I will take it up in SVO on departure. It is their own stamp on the immigration card and there is not much they can do against me!

This was the final straw for the problems we have to face any time we visit Russia so I have made up my mind, NEVER, to visit Russia again untill I have no need for a visa and also to register with OVIR.

To be honest I wouldn't have come here, this time, if it wasn't for Hanna, returning after 2 years of absence....... [biggrin.gif]

Wiz as you know i always have the same problems with registration, officials in Russia are trained to be as akward as possible, ignorant, rude and very impatient , its never a pleasant experience registering with the OVIR. If you think Russia and Russian systems are backwards then this confirms it, i can understand our country not wanting foreigners in and making life difficult , but in Russia you would think that they would welcome Foreigners with money to spend.

But in January for the first time ever in the scruffy backward industrial Sh*th*le of Dimitrovgrad city i managed to register my immigration card at the post office, they finally moved out of the 18th century !!! [lol.gif] What a relief, so much easier and no miserable state officials [happy.gif] . Maybe you can make the same registration in your town by going to the Post Office, probably have to pay a fine now that you are more than 3 days in RF without registration, tell them you where travelling by Lada from the airport and it broke down so many times you only just arrived [lol.gif]

Julian

If you think that by making your registration at the Post office has brought this soding country to the 18th century you are very mistaken. Medveden and also Vladimir have admited publicly that there is plenty of corruption and anybody getting a desk is there to make money. Not my words by Vladimir's!

I will not bother going to either OVIR again or the post office..... to Register.

My immigration card has been stamped at SVO and of course there is the no of the immigration official on it and in my passport.........if my card was wrong and not acceptable then why did this officer gave me the old style one back?

I have never had any problems in the past leaving the country without registartion.... and I do not expect it also now. The officers in SVO know very well what ass..holes run the provincial offices......ask Sparky to tell you what he has to go through visiting Rostov na danu and how many fines he has paid for no reason!

Sod this country which treats its people and any visitors with such contempt..... once I am back in the UK I wil never comeback.... and my wife has to come alone. I feel sorry for the poor Russians but.... nothing I can do to help if they do accept such treatment. I don't and will not visit Russia anymore.

My wife is a Russian National, has a UK Resident card and can travel anywhere is Europe with me without the need of any type of visa.

This sodding country wants equal treatment in Europe then they should play the same game and let me have a Multi entry 5 year visa for FREE, as my wife got hers for free..... but it will never happen so sod them and their country!

All we hear is how bad the British and foreign embassies treat Russians.........and how difficult is for them to travel.......and it's the EU who doesn't want to abolish the visa.... and nothing to do with the Russians, who do not want to play with the same rules!
