Part VIIIOur first few days together
It's good to write my recollections as there were so many potential minefields.. Veta's English wasn't good, and we had to often resort to Promt Translator on the PC... but having experienced a woman who was 'lazy' ( re learning English) we found being face to face infinitely easier to communicate.
We we went to interesting places on the island and she met more clients and on the evening of day three we stayed in and watched a DVD from the local shop that still provided DVDs ( not MP4) with English subtitles.. and we watched a movie ..Veta's body clock was still 5 hours ahead and she fell asleep, and I had to carry her to bed... not difficult.. she weighed 46KG ...still the same now ! The worst bit was closing the door behind me ....
The next morning Veta told me that she found the marble tiles in the apartment really cold to walk on and I bought her a pair of slippers - she chose them.. they weren't expensive, and as we left the shop she suddenly stood on her toes and kissed my cheek - to say thanks.. I wasn't expecting it.. and I found the gesture very pleasant.
Veta laughs now when I tell her that I thought this was a 'signal' but she can't look me in the eye for long and laughs...
On the forth day we drove into the wilds of Cyprus and 'got lost' in a Cedar forest and visited an Orthodox Christian Monastery..Veta called her Mum and had a long chat ( calls to Russia are very inexpensive from Cyprus - even on a mobile [cell] ) and I had a chat with her too.. I had an invitation to visit Siberia from Veta's Mum, before Veta had informed me

Day five came all too quickly and for us it hadn't been long enough....
I watched her plane take off and wondered how cold a Siberian Winter would feel to a guy used to living in warmer climes..
