Hi

Most people know about Wizzair to/inside Ukraine. But inside Russia Skyexpress can be considered a lowfare airline. Use B737. An low cost airline would be avianova.ru using Airbus like Wizzair. To/from Moscow to Volga region they are often cheaper than a train ticket.

Interesting post, it is just a pity that they do not fly east of the Urals.

Hi

They do. Both fly Ekaterinburg (Avianova from 3800 rubles, skyexpress from 6400 roundtrip in July) and both fly to Tyumen. Chelabinsk, Kurgan is also served and they all behind the Urals.

It seems however, wizzair is in trouble.

They moved from Borispol airport to "Zhulany" in kiev for 1 (Borispol is nice and modern, zhulany is a shithole, but easier to visit kiev itself from zhulany).

And this is the biggest dealbreaker for me: They stopped flying the same day to simferopol from dortmund.

It used to be a 4-hour layover in kiev (doable) and now its a sleepover (YUCK).

So I found ukraine international, who fly direct from frankfurt to simferopol. Yes so the car-trip is a bit more (4 hours opposed to 2 to dortmund), but I do get a direct nonstop flight without the kiev hub, so no layover total... Now if only the price would be accordingly nice, 400 euro instead of 240 euro round-trip is a bit much.

I don't think Wizzair is in trouble Markje. They are like a number of other low cost airlines (typically Ryanair) and are ruthless in their negotiations with airports and no doubt got a better deal at Zhulany so they moved there. They also make a habit a ditching or reducing routes that aren't regularly heavily booked.

On the subject of air travel it seems that the daily flight from Lugansk to Kiev has now been permanently grounded. Shame that.
