Vita and I gave notice of our marriage at the start of last week (that was a bit of an experience for Vita, but that's another story)
I was just wondering whether the 'warning' they printed on their letter to us today about the OK from the GRO regarding Vita's divorce papers is given to everyone as a matter of course and is quite normal.

Sorry been busy these past few weeks... [wink.gif]

I am however required to draw your attention to the following extract from the Registrar General's letter:

"Both parties must however first be warned that the responsibility for the marriage and it's validity in this or any other country rests entirely with them. They should be told that the Registrar General can give no assurance that the divorce would be recognised as valid by the Courts in this country or elsewhere and if at any time it becomes necessary for the parties to satisfy other United Kingdim authorities as to the legality of the marriage which they propose to contract, they may be called upon to satisfy those authorities as to the validity of the divorce".

I suppose I need to find out what they could intend by 'other UK authorities' but in anycase, when you present a marriage certificate, is that not enough? Seems a bit odd to me...maybe they mean the UKBA when applying for FLM?

Les relax my friend [wink.gif]

Nothing special as I understand.

They obviously warn you about the Status of your new wife, because she is a foreigner from a no EU country.

What they basically say it's up to you to prove to the UK Border Agency and any other Authority that your marriage is valid one and not one of convenience. Just covering their a$$es ... just in case they got it wrong and married somebody not entitle to get married and have residence in this country.

Tell Vita it's much worse in her country where to visit Chishinau she needs to pass through frontiers...... [wink.gif]

Don't worry and good luck with the preparations of your wedding then after that the fun starts with the UKBA etc.

All the best for your marriage and keeps us posted....

My wife wants to see happy photos of your wedding! [cheer.gif]

Les,

I 100% agree with the comments made by Yannis.

Nothing to worry about just typical government double speak.

Why write in plain English when it possible to write in a language that nobody can understand known as governmenteze.

[icon_offtopics.gif] Maybe it is time to start demanding that the government pays for translations from governmenteze into English. [ontopic.jpg]

Regarding the forthcoming wedding.
