Wisley Gardens - England August 2008

As I said to Raffi, when I first arrived in UK my husband bought a membership to Wisley Gardens, so here are some photos from our visits there.

Wisley gardens, a Surrey garden for all seasons - a garden for all.

The flagship garden of the RHS, Wisley, captures the imagination with richly planted borders, luscious rose gardens and of course, the state-of-the-art new Glasshouse.

Gifted to the Society in 1903, only a small part of the original estate was cultivated as a garden, the remainder being wooded farmland. Over time, the face of Wisley has changed, so it is now world-class garden in its own right, but a closer look reveals the real value of Wisley.

Those photos kind of makes 'one' proud to be English. It wont apply to either Wiz or Hanna, but you get my drift I'm sure. [happy.gif]

My Russian Svetok... flower for you [tonque.gif]... is complimenting the English Garden. [biggrin.gif]

Question for you: I came to England in August 1970......so what that makes me?

Do I fit on the landscape or not? [tonque.gif]

A Greek with a UK passport ! ;)

I lived in Cyprus for seven years and COULD have had a Cypriot passport - but I'm QUITE sure I would never have been accepted as a Cypriot ! ...

..No more than my Wife would ever claim be to British / Irish ;)

Greek and Cypriots are very different... and as you know the language is not the same either.... just similar!

If you were in Greece you would have to wait for 8 years before acquiring the Greek Nationality and Passport.

No I can't under any circumstances claim to Be English because you have to be born in England and have English parents to make that claim.

But quite happily I can claim to be British, after living here for so many years and have acquired my British Nationality and passport from my adopted country, which I like very much.

In my view to be British means a multicultural society co-existing together with common goals and values, a way of life. Great Britain is not just the union of England, Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland but the culmination and result of many years integration of various cultures in one equal society.

Sure.. GREEK Cypriots call Greeks "the gay quill pen holders", and Greeks say Cypriots are "Arabs wearing shoes " [rolf.gif] Greek accents are much softer and s's are sort of lispy and interesting .. the Cypriot dialect sounds like a Belfast accent - HARD..

Wiz, in truth I was joshing you [embarrased.gif] If you wish to be British that's fine.. Personally speaking were you are born, the passport you hold / choose to hold, has - in my experience - been to much of an issue ( Ireland / Cyprus being prime examples )

Many Brits might claim to have felt that, years ago - but I'm not so sure now :(

Er, Great Britain is the Union of England, Wales, and Scotland - it leaves out N.Ireland ... [bat.gif] As someone from there - of a 'loyalist' [ to the Queen ! ] background it was drummed into us to point out that :

1/ Britain = UK ..

2/ UK = GB+N.Ireland ( check your UK passport )

3/ GB = Eng/ Scot / Wales

'Us' 'loyalists' have to keep reminding the mainlanders that we still want to be British... well, until we are out-voted - and the way current demographics are heading, the Irish nationalists need only breed more and wait a little longer [surprised.gif]

I've got an Irish passport - and use IT now ... my Granddad is probably spinning in his grave :(
