Hi,

New and have read some parts of the forum. I guess a quick intro into why I cannot just hop on a plane and fly to Russia.

Last year I spent three months in prison for something I had no knowledge of, but unfortunately was caught with the "You own the computer so it is your responsibility" law brought in 2008.... so I am sure you can guess what it was. The fact that I proved the computer was not in my hands at the time didn't matter... anyway, that's not the point, just some background there.

So, because of that I have two problems for a visa, not just 1... I think anyway:-

1: I have a criminal record - albeit for only three months, but still have one (I have read through the article posting regarding someone else asking this question)

The second point is what makes my question a little different

2: Because what was found on the computer were "apparent" images of a sexual nature, I am on the SOR for 7 years, a tad unfair really, but nothing I can do about it.

So, obviously when applying for the Visa I would be telling them about the CR, I won't lie, but will the SOR be a great concern or will they not really check that?

Thank you in advance for any help.

As an add, and apologies for this as I did not explain it my reason for wanting to travel...

If I cannot travel there, then I cannot.

I have been chatting to a lovely Russian Woman and would like to visit just to see if we get on, nothing more than that. If we do, then that's great and if not, well I get to look around a beautiful City and learn a little about Russian Culture. I may actually be able to practice the Russian I have been learning.

So, apologies for not explaining my reasons in the first note above.

Hello and welcome to the board.

To be honest I don't think anybody can answer the questions because it's so delicate situation.

If you don't try you will never know... and other people with CR did get a visa.

Give it a try and if it din't work... make arrangements to travel to a country where you do not need a visa and have a nice holiday together!

Good luck!

Thank you for the response.

That's exactly what I was going to do, just see if I get one, if not, then yes, another country where no visa is required would be better.

What is the best place/site to go to for a visa please?

Thanks in advance.

An update for anyone else in my position:-

I have a criminal conviction and applied for a visa - don't know unless you ask.

I have just received my passport back with a full tourist visa attached.... :)

Hope this helps anyone else. Just try it, you never know :)

Thanks for the help.
