Scotty,
Where will you be staying when in Moscow?
If at a hotel then the hotel will register your visa for you as part of your check-in process.
If you are going to be staying at your G/F's then unless you use the services of Real Russia as suggested by wiz and dare I add seconded by me, your G/F will need to register your visa for you.

For your G/F to register your visa you will need to read the "Registering in Russia" which will appear (quite soon).

I will be staying in a hotel for the first night. I can register my visa there. After that, the plan is to travel to my girl's Dacha, where I will meet her grandmother and her sister. (Any advice?)

I have found only one cuddly haggis toy, and I wouldn't give that to anyone! :) I think a wee Scotty dug or a heilan' coo would be a better bet :D

As for chocolates, I am told Cadbury's is not available in Moscow, so some of that will go down well, I hope.

As an added bonus, I am considering buying a kilt to wear on the plane! That would be a surprise for everyone, not just my girl [biggrin.gif]

Shortbread and Whisky are also a must, and I am thinking about taking a real haggis in my hold luggage too. Does anyone know if this is ok? I don't want the airline to think it is C4 or something

Scotty: Is that 'Moscow' in your avatar the one you would pass if you were travelling from Glasgow airport to Kilmarnock?

Vinnvinny : Yes! That's the one :)

I went into the town from the A77 and turned around and parked behind the sign. I had a tripod and a little Samsung camera. It was snowing and bloomin' freezing!!!

I passed signs for the village a few weeks ago and thought when I'm back up that way then I must take my camera. [thumbs.gif]

Yes, the sign amused my girlfriend. [happy.gif]

I don't see why I have to sit on a plane for hours to get to Moscow. I can drive to it in 30 minutes [biggrin.gif]

A cuddly haggis (along with the explanation about haggis hunting) will make you a Hero.

A cuddly Haggis is one of my fiancée's treasured possessions.

If you wear a kilt you will be fighting the women off with a stick.
The happiest woman on the planet (on that day)

Chocolates, any chocolates will go down a treat.

I have taken Haggis in aeroplanes quite a few times without any problems (I would not advise taking Haggis tho North America but you are not going there so no worries).

Enjoy your trip.

Note:
The hotel will most probably de-register you upon departure so check with the hotel and if they will not agree to keep you registered then either get your GF to register you in the Post office or use Real Russia, a few extra pennies but it will save you a lot of trouble later.

I Hope This Helps

These Haggi you speak of, do you have to have them sedated for the flight or are they already dead? :(

I depends on the hunting method.

The Short/Long legged variety are of course captured alive and they require sedation.
The Haggis Normalus Scootius is normally shot so they are reasonably dead before they are captured.

Whilst I don't think this forum is really the place we should discuss animal cruelty, I do think that you should be aware that many people will consider your comments to be highly offensive. To suggest that livestock should be sedated and smuggled on board in your hand luggage is quite indefensible IMO. In protest I will not buy any more cans of IRN BRU until further notice.
