I came across this page in Jimslists.com about a well known dating operation!

http://jimslists.com/agencies/ukrainian-marriage-agency-scam.html

Adverts in Ukrainian newspapers and online offering money to (good looking 18-35) girls to answer dating letters and do video chats for companies that supply Anastasia and other well known US agencies with their lists of FSU women looking for partners.

It's quite appaling. [surprised.gif]

That really is terrible. Perhaps having read some of the same things you have my understanding is that if you post negative comments on the internet about them the lawyers are on it in a heartbeat.

It is nothing more than evidence for what has been known a long time regarding certain agencies. The open advertising means that the risk of exposure (a.k.a. the number of men making a trip) is down.

I can confirm that as I talked to some 'interpreters' in private… There are even worse things happening there…

This has been going on for many years and is going to go on for even longer :D So this is not the end.

That is why I say: hire me or another third-party disinterested professional translator found by you and paid by you directly to talk to women directly. This would eliminate most of such scams.

Yet so many people like to believe in the unbelievable and the agency hype is actually what they pay for as it is so sweet.

[shrugs]

We could agree on kvas instead :)

Back to the subject, this is not the end. This IS the process. It has been going on as long as this RW thing has been there. Here is what I found at the Odessa City Board while talking with colleagues. We were discussing work and employers. (I have posted this elsewhere but will add here too):
Quote:

In two words the translator is complaining that during her search for work she discovered that all marriage agencies require composing rather than translating correspondence, and she did not find A SINGLE marriage agency that actually needed a translator rather than 'not-clear-who'.

(Needless to say that my experience has never been different).

Another quote from the same thread:
Quote:

"You come to an interview and are told that you are supposed to compose letters under the name of a female client and also you are going to have a corporate cell phone and you are supposed to answer calls and pretend that you are her (the client)… if so, run away!"

This has been the norm for years, who is really surprised by this "proof"?

That said, I always love the showmanship on both sides of the game. The agencies and the holier-than-thou forum boards who bemoan their existence.

I think of all the young guys and "newbies" who start those threads, "Please look at this and tell me if...."

More denial and fantasy.

As someone who has never used web dating maybe I am not the most qualified to comment on web dating, but I still have common sense (at least I think that I do  ).

The rules should be simple.

First rule. Remember that "A fool and his money are easily parted"

Do not pay for a service that you can get for free.

If someone lacks the confidence to attempt the first stage of introduction then by paying someone to provide such a service they are opening to abuse, such as to paying further to communicate with someone that was meet through the introduction site since it is in the interest of the "introducer" to string the "introduced" along (that is how they make their money).

It does not matter how the introduction took part never ever send money to someone that you have never meet in person and even then always remember the first rule.

Why do I feel that I am preaching to the converted? [surprised.gif]

My conclusions though are:
Is Internet dating finished? Probably not.
Will fools and their money be parted? Definitely yes.

No Interenet Dating is not going to die as people always need a way to meet.

Before the appearance of the Internet people used parties, clubs and many other outlets to meet people from the opposite side. Today the Indernet and the prolification of the Dating sites added another outlet where people can meet.

Actually using messengers and video conference makes things much easier and people can see eachother and get to know better much quicker.....but whatever means you use to meet another person the personal face to face contact is the only way you can find out the real person and have a relationship.

Of course the new medium of communication has expanded our horizons all over the world and made more possible to meet people from other countries and now we have 1000's of dating sites.
