Beautiful Greek songs and Music

In another thread, "Maria", posted a link to a nice Greek song and signer and I thought to post here some more Greek songs which I hope you would like. There is a huge variety in the Greek music and all of us, who are from Greek decent have our preferences. So sit up and enjoy the first offering:

Perigiali (beach)

Perigiali - Seferis - Theodorakis - Farandouri

In a hidden seashore
white as a dove
we found ourselves in midday, thirsty,
but the water undrinkable.

On the golden sand
we wrote her name,
how beautifully the breeze came
and erased the writing.

We started our life with all our heart,
all our breath, all our passion -- a mistake!
and we changed our life.

George Seferis was the pen name of Georgios Seferiadis (1900 -- 1971). He was one of the most important Greek poets of the 20th century, and a Nobel laureate. He was also a career diplomat in the Greek Foreign Service, culminating in his appointment as Ambassador to the UK, a post which he held from 1957 to 1962.

Mikis Theodorakis , born July 29, 1925, is one of the most renowned Greek songwriters and composers. Internationally, he is probably best known for his songs and for his scores for the films Zorba the Greek), and Serpico. Politically, he identified with the left until the late 1980s and has consistently opposed oppressive regimes and was the key voice against the Greek Junta 1967-1974, which imprisoned him.

Maria Farandouri ,born in 28 November 1947, is a Greek singer and also a political and cultural activist. She has collaborated with prominent Greek composers such as Mikis Theodorakis

I think that Giannis Ploutarxos deserves a mention too.

A friend of mine who is Greek absolutely loves this guy and I quite enjoy this one:

"Koritsi mou" translates to "my girl" btw.

When you make a post, like this video, please click the button VIDEO, above the text area and place the link between the [video] and [/video} so the video is embedded here and the people don't have to go to YouTube to watch it! [wink.gif]

I just added the code to your link and embedded the video, as you can see and I hope that you don't mind me doing that! [drink-coffee.gif]

Also there are several other useful buttons. Place the mouse over them to see what they are for at the Tip line. [wink.gif]

As you noticed I do it very often to make my posts colourful.

ALL ISLANDS with Alkistis Protopsalti

This is a new song from the extraordinary Greek songwriter, Evanthia Reboutsika, which enchant us with her music and makes a nostalgic trip around the Greek islands and smells of cinnamon and allspice. In cooperation with the great melancholic poet Michalis Ganas, from Epirus on the west of Greece, they created a different song, in the popular island style of dancing, that smells Greece.

This is my reason for choosing this song, so we can travel together, with skipper the beautiful and clear voice of Alkistis Protopsalti, to all the islands of my country, like lilies of the seashore. The photos chosen, in the video, follow faithfully the islands mentioned in the song

Good listening and enjoy the video!

We enjoy many of the Greek Eurovision entries for their mix of traditional and modern themes.

Here is one:

Hey wiz, thanks, I don't mind it at all! :)

In fact I agree that not only does it only look much better now but it is also more convenient. I will keep that in mind for future videos. ;)

LOVE DOES’T KNOW BORDERS

Lyrics: Sotia Tsotou - Music: Kostas Hatzis - Signer Marinella

My translation:

Let me sit beside you
and you can ponder whatever you want,
will not talk, will not talk to you.
Talk to others around you
so to hear your voice,
please, please.

Borders love does not know
how much I love you, how I love you.
Lean and your shade wil touch me
And I shiver, I shiver.

Let me drink a sip
from your glass
I am very thirsty, very thirsty.
Life goes and I am lost
my mouth is crying for a kiss,
cry for a kiss, cry for a kiss.

Borders love does not know
how much I love you, how I love you.
Lean and your shade will touch me
And I shiver, I shiver.

I dedicate the above song to all of us who found love in another country!

I love you because you're beautiful
(Traditional)

I love you
I love you because you're beautiful
I love you because you're beautiful
I love you because it’s you

I love
I love you all over the world
I love you all over the world
because you live with us together
